About Hrókur and the Sky Riders
Although Hrókur has never seen Iceland, an impressive dream awakens his longing for the home of his ancestors. So, he sets off with the curious squirrel on a truly adventurous journey, during which they meet old and new friends.
Hrókur’s adventure is also a story about courage, trust, and true friendship. And it gives us a glimpse of how deeply the mysterious nature of Iceland lives in the character of its horses.
A story to dream about, enchantingly illustrated by Sophia Drescher, who brings Hrókur and his friends to life with her wonderful hand-drawn illustrations.
Hrókur the stallion
He really does exist, the young Icelandic stallion Hrókur, who was born on Dormouse Day 2023 in the Swabian Alb. His owner Ralf met him for the first time on that very day, and it was love at first sight. It quickly became clear that this little guy was something very special, not only because of the heart-shaped mark on his forehead, but also because of his exceptionally lovable nature.
This gave rise to the idea of writing a book about Hrókur, and Ralf and Sibylle, who have been working together at Ostheimer and connected by friendship for a long time, have created a magical story together.
The World of Hrókur
As the world of Hrókur grew, other kindred makers were invited to join in, as if the story itself was calling for companions. Together with Ostheimer and Grapat, we were honoured to help extend Hrókur’s adventure beyond the pages of the book.
The tale of Hrókur and the Sky Riders will be published by Grätz-Verlag in German and English, carrying his dream out into the wider world.
Released with the book, the magic continues in your hands: an Ostheimer figure of Hrókur, crafted with such warmth and character, brings the young stallion into real-life play. Beside him, Grapat will release a 55-piece set inspired by Iceland’s wild landscapes, glowing skies, and mysterious, enchanting nature.
And then there is the light: with these StoryLux silhouettes, the illustrations are gently brought to life inside the Toverlux Lamp, so the story can keep unfolding in bedtime rituals, in make-believe journeys, and in quiet moments of wonder where imagination feels wonderfully real.
