About the book:
In the story, Madu tries to answer her teacher Pien’s question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Together with a little sparrow, she ventures into the forest in search of an answer. In a magical woodland filled with animals, flowers, and tiny forest folk, she asks a squirrel, a butterfly, and a deer—but none of them can help her. It is only when she meets an old wise woman that she receives a surprising and meaningful insight, revealing that the answer was much simpler than she had imagined.
As children, we are often encouraged to look ahead—to think about who or what we want to become one day. But in doing so, we can overlook something even more important: discovering and connecting with who we already are, deep within ourselves.
This story is an invitation to do just that. As the wise old woman gently reminds Madu:
“Don't search for who you want to become. Listen to who you already are. If you keep doing that throughout your life, you will become exactly who you are meant to be.”
