Toverlux: a Story of Friendship & Motherhood

How It All Began: A Story of Friendship
Almost six years ago, something real between two old friends slowly and quietly began to take shape. Built on support, love and friendship, this is the story about how Het Wol Feetje and Toverlux came to life.
Femke and I met when we were seventeen. The kind of encounter that feels less like a beginning and more like remembering something you already knew: kindred spirits. From that moment on, our friendship carried us through the unfolding seasons of life; first loves, university, heartbreak, friendships, travels, navigating new cities, new countries even. Being witness to the birth of our first borns… While life spun its web, our connection held.

Even when Femke lived in New York for a few years and I stayed in Amsterdam, the string between us only stretched, it never snapped. Distance didn’t dim our connection; it gave it space to grow in a different way.
When motherhood came we saw how closely our values aligned, a love for simplicity, softness, and a slower way of living. We became part of each other’s family, and that connection quietly deepened what we knew to be important in life.
It was during a difficult chapter in my own journey through motherhood that something unexpected began to grow. A time of overwhelming love and loss. A time that left me with no more words to speak. And for someone who has always found solace in words, this silence was unfamiliar. I needed a new language. That’s when wool found its way into my life.
Soft, warm, and forgiving, it offered me a new language when words no longer felt enough. Through my hands, I began to shape what lived in my heart: a tender, magical, woolen world for my girls, for their little brothers we carry in our hearts, and for myself.
One of those wool paintings became my mother’s last Christmas card. And others became a gesture of light and solace from my husband, who, as a funeral director, walks alongside families in their most vulnerable moments. He sent them out as a quiet offering of comfort. And somehow, others felt that warmth too.
Femke saw what I was doing. In her natural way, she stepped in — not to take over, but to lift me up. She brought structure to my swirling ideas, peace to my creative chaos. It felt so natural.
The seed that would become Het Wol Feetje was planted right there, in the living room.
One day, I placed a small light behind a wool painting. The colours deepened. The image came alive. It was a moment of magic…
Femke, with her clarity and can-do spirit, helped shape that spark into something tangible. We found a wood workshop and a little corner in a shared office in a care home for the elderly. While I dreamed in wool, she built the framework. What I imagined, she made real. I created, she organised. We found a rhythm.
And so Toverlux was born.
Not from ambition, but from love. From grief. From giving it space to unfold. We found a home in the Waldorf community of kindred makers, dreamers, and artists. It has never just been about lamps. It’s about Light. About carrying something gentle into the world. About honouring the seasons and the rhythm of life, both outside and within.
She’s practical and precise. I float more in the world of stories and senses. But at our core, we share the same values. The same love for beauty, simplicity, and soulful creation. We balance each other, heart and hand. And that balance is what makes Toverlux feel like home.
Every lamp we send carries more than light. It holds a whisper of our friendship. A piece of our story.
Toverlux is more than a brand. It’s our journey. And now also yours…✨
With love,
Annefleur
