Sonne Mond und Erde
The story of SONNE MOND und ERDE began in 2021, when two creative minds with a shared passion for nature brought an idea to life. Master woodworker and farmer Hans Peter Kraus and wilderness educator Dagmar Steigenberger joined forces to create the Moon Wheel—a perpetual wooden calendar that displays the phases of the moon, the moon's position in the zodiac, and its ascending and descending path across the sky.
What started as a single idea soon grew into something much larger. Inspired by the natural rhythms that surround us, we continue to create products that help people reconnect with time as it is experienced in nature: through the moon, the changing seasons, the starry sky, and the different phases of our lives.
As parents of a nature-loving daughter, living on a Demeter farm in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, caring for children, protecting our environment, and nurturing a close connection with nature are at the heart of everything we do.
Dagmar's seasonal illustrations have already found their way onto countless seasonal tables in nurseries, kindergartens, and Waldorf schools. As colourful seasonal clocks and perpetual birthday calendars, they gently introduce even the youngest children to the beautiful cycle of time—that every beginning is followed by an ending, and every ending makes room for a new beginning.
The circle has become our signature. It appears throughout all of our designs, from Advent calendars and seasonal wheels to moon calendars, star maps, and cycle wheels. Most of our products are made from paper, while the rest are crafted from wood—a material Hans Peter has spent a lifetime working with (with the occasional touch of stainless steel for our Moon Wheels).
Today, our collection includes moon calendars in many forms: yearly moon calendars, small rotating perpetual moon calendars made from paper, wooden moon calendars that can be worn as jewellery, Celtic moon calendars, and moon and cycle calendars designed to accompany the menstrual cycles of women.
And because our fascination with nature extends far beyond the moon, you'll also find zodiac cards, zodiac bracelets, and a rotating glow-in-the-dark star map among our creations. During the Christmas season, our illuminated Advent Calendar and the Rauhnächte Calendar with its twelve wishes have become cherished favourites.
